We take care of water for 15 million people, building a better future for our customers, our country and our planet.

People are at the heart of our business. We value the unique skills, experiences, and backgrounds that everyone brings. Our people help us to deliver life’s essential service so that our customers, communities and the environment can thrive.

    Respecting and valuing everyone

Our ongoing commitment to a great, inclusive workplace enables us to attract and retain diverse talent representative of our communities. Our people help us to deliver life’s essential service so that our customers, communities and the environment can thrive.

In the most recent workplace equality (LGBT+) index we were listed as a Top 100 Employer and a Gold award winner. Our employee Pride network was awarded Highly Commended Employee Network Group status for our work on creating an inclusive and safe environment for our LGBTQ+ colleagues.

We’re continuing to make good progress with 15% BAME employees and a year-on-year increase in BAME managers and leaders.

Each year we have seen a decrease in our gender pay gap. We were delighted to win the ENEI (Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion) 2020 award for impact through innovation. This award recognised our inclusion cards, which enable open and honest conversations. The purpose of the cards is to help break down any barriers and ensure inclusive attitudes and behaviours.

    Our employee networks

We have a number of diversity and inclusion employee networks, which support us in building an inclusive culture and working environment:

    • Our BAME+ and Allies network helps us attract and progress talent from different backgrounds and ethnicities, inspiring people to consider a career with us. The network also facilitates our #explainorchange mentoring circles to encourage job seekers in our community into work.
    • Our DisAbility Confident network provides support and recommendations for accessible services for our customers and employees. The network facilitates work experience, organises education or training, and raises awareness of visible and non-visible disabilities. This is part of our award-winning ‘Give Someone a Start’ (GSAS) scheme.
    • Our Pride network helps create a safe, inclusive place to work through support and ongoing campaigns like #nobystanders. The network attends annual Pride events, raising awareness whilst promoting water efficiency and hydrating customers through our free water station.
    • Our Women’s network helps us to create balance for better. The network organises career development workshops, mentoring and networking events. They were also key in helping shape our revised and enhanced family leave policies.
    • Our multi-faith networks include Christians in Thames, Hindu, Judaism, Peace and Sikh networks. They work together to raise awareness and fundraise, contributing food and supporting charities to provide shelter for those in need.
    • Our Men’s Allies network aims to create a safe, supportive space for men and their allies to come together – empowering them to use their voice for open and honest discussion about the topics that mean the most to them. It’s time to start talking!
    • Our Parents and Carers network helps to support employees through their parenting or caring journey. The network works to make sure the demands on our parents and carers are understood and respected. We aim to make flexibility work for the benefit of employees and our business.

We regularly share best practice and use learnings from others to help ensure FWC is a diverse and inclusive place to work.
